An update on Senator Mark Warner’s efforts relating to health information technology

The stimulus act also established Medicare incentives for hospitals and for doctors if they used electronic medical records meaningfully. Provisions in the legislation sought to ensure that hospital-based physicians providing health care services in a non-hospital setting would still be eligible for these EMR incentives. However, proposed regulations by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services did not follow the intent of this legislation.
Last week, Senator Warner joined 16 of his Senate colleagues in a letter that strongly urges the Obama Administration to include provider-based entities in these EMR investments.
